A street scene from downtown Hong Kong during a stopover: A figure lying still in the center of flux, the glare of lights, the blur of figures passing by, the textures of the city. For this work and for a series of monochrome paintings, I deliberately eschewed color to focus on light and dark shapes and on movement.

This piece was made using computer-created text on acetate and a slide projector to project the text onto canvas. Using a projector gives the painting an accidental machine-like quality, and contrasts strongly with the expressiveness of calligraphy, especially Japanese calligraphy paintings.
